Star Crossed

Sarah A. Townsend is currently working on a new novel called "Star Crossed". This is Sarah's first science fiction novel, and she's never worked on a story so quickly before. She's nearly one third the way through the writing process at this point in time.

The Inspiration

I actually got the idea for this story while listening to the song "Music of the Night" from The Phantom of the Opera. I started thinking of how the song marvelled at the unique spendor of night. Then, the idea popped into my head; what if we lived in a world where it was night all the time? What if all we knew was darkness? Then I went over to the other side of the thought and pondered what it would be like if there was no night and there was only pure sunlight all the time. From there my ideas started balling up like snow.

The Main Characters

"Una is the ultimate main character as well as the narrator of Star Crossed. She lives on the side of planet Opsida where it is only night time. From the beginning of my writing the story, I pictured Una as a girl with ivory skin, eyes of saphire blue, and dark, rich auburn hair. Her appearance had to be the opposite of someone 'kissed by the sun'. After searching the internet for pictures that best resembled Una's appearance in my mind, I finally came across a picture of Emily Browning and said aloud, 'That's her! That's Una!'" Emily's eyes are, however, green and not blue, but hey, close enough!"

The Novel

Imagine a world where Day and Night are no longer an indication of time, but instead, two completely different places.Where one side of the planet is wrapped in a blanket of light, while the other half is kept forever in darkness. For Una, this is no figment of imagination... it's real. Una lives on a planet called Opisida where one side is Night and one side is Day. Una lives in Night with a people called the Owls. Owls are forbidden to cross over into Day on the other side of the planet, just as the Larks, (Day people), are forbidden to cross into Night. But Una is curious, and soon begins crossing the river between the small stretch of land that separates the two worlds, and there befriends a Lark named Saul. But danger draws near as Saul tries to cross over into Night and is immediatly captured. Talk of an ancient prophesy arises; one that will alter the very fabric of Opisida. The fate of Saul, the Owls, and all of Opisida rests on the shoulders of only one now. Una herself.

Una

"Saul is the secondary main character in Star Crossed. He lives on the side of Opisida where it is always daytime. Saul is tall, fairly slender, and has sandy blonde hair that is short and clean cut. His skin is defintly "sun-kissed" and has a healthy bronze glow. He also has chocolate brown eyes. When searching for a picture with the likeness of Saul, I came across this picture of a boy that looked exactly right, however I don't know the model's name. Still, he fits my description to a T!"
